DNS, without the guesswork.
dnsconfig is a free set of tools for people who need their domain to work but don’t want to become DNS experts.
How it works
- 01
Check or pick a guide
Type a domain for a health report, or pick what you’re setting up.
- 02
Copy the records
We fill in your details and show what to type at your DNS provider.
- 03
We check it live
We ask public DNS resolvers and explain anything that’s off, in plain language.
Mistakes we catch
- Domain name added twice
- Typing “app.acme.com” where the provider already adds “acme.com” creates app.acme.com.acme.com.
- Record on the wrong name
- A verification record on your root domain instead of the name the service checks.
- Two SPF records
- A second SPF record breaks both. We give you one merged record instead.
- Cloudflare proxy switched on
- The orange cloud hides your value, so services can’t verify it.
- Typos and stray quotes
- A missing letter or extra quote marks — shown next to what’s expected.
- Leftovers from an old provider
- Old MX or A records that still send email or visitors to the wrong place.
For SaaS teams
If customers connect their own domain to your product, send them a pre-filled link. They get instructions for their DNS provider and a live check that explains mistakes — before they email your support team.

Questions
Is DNSConfig free?
Yes. Checking domains, the setup guides and the propagation checker are free and don’t need an account.
Can you change my DNS records for me?
No — we never need access to your accounts. We show you exactly what to enter at your DNS provider and check the result from the outside, just like the rest of the internet sees it.
Do you store the domains I check?
We don’t keep a history of your checks. Answers are cached for up to a minute to keep things fast. If analytics is enabled, we record anonymous usage (like which guide was opened) to improve the product.
Where do the results come from?
We ask well-known public DNS resolvers — Cloudflare (1.1.1.1), Google (8.8.8.8), Quad9 and others — in real time, the same services millions of people use every day.
I added a record but it still shows “Not found yet”. What now?
Double-check the name field (usually just the part in front of your domain), save the record, and give it a few minutes. Turn on “Keep checking” and we’ll re-check every 30 seconds.
My service isn’t listed. Can I still use DNSConfig?
Yes. The “Custom domain for a SaaS app” guide covers most services that ask for a CNAME and a verification record, and the domain checker works for any domain.
